At Breathe Easy International (BEI), we believe that health empowerment begins with knowledge, compassion, and community. What started in 2011 as "Breathe Easy with Us," a support initiative for individuals with Cystic Fibrosis, has evolved into a globally-minded nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by chronic lung conditions and supporting the health providers who care for them.
Founded by Reuben Samules—himself living with Cystic Fibrosis—BEI was born from a deeply personal journey. After recognizing the gap in health literacy among patients, Reuben sought to share his insights on recovery, fitness, and communication with medical teams. From sending care packages and mentoring patients to educating future medical professionals, our early years were marked by a fierce commitment to patient empowerment.
Following a transformative lung transplant and years of deep engagement with the healthcare system, BEI re-emerged with a broader vision. Now operating under our new name, we’ve expanded our mission to include a wide spectrum of lung conditions, pre- and post-transplant support, and advocacy for trauma-informed care, and will continue to as we grow into the future.
At BEI, we ask bold questions, pursue whole-person wellness, and bridge the gap between patients and providers. Whether you're navigating a chronic condition, supporting a loved one, or working on the medical front lines—we’re here to equip, educate, and encourage breathing new life into healthcare.
